A slicker brush with curved, dense pins should be used for the bracelets and short hair, a pin brush on a cushioned base for the longer hair, but a pure bristle brush is recommended for the mane and top-knot.
Combs
This should have rounded teeth at least 1 1/2in (4cm) long for the Standard Poodle. For Miniatures and Toys, you should use a steel comb with teeth between 3/4 to 1in long (2-2.5cm). Most steel combs have half medium and half fine teeth.
Clippers
The size and type of clippers varies enormously, with different sized blades used for the different Poodle according to the length of hair required, ie much shorter on the face, feet and tail than on the body. The Oster NO.5 has interchangeable blades: NO 15 for the short clip and NO 5 for the body.
Scissors
Always buy scissors of good quality, preferably of stainless steel which will not rust. The length and type of scissors will depend on personal choce; a 7 1/2in (19cm) length is lighter to handle than shears of 8 1/2 in (22cm). Scissors with blunt ends are useful for puppies and to scissor near the eyes.
